Postal Pistol match for October
« on: October 15, 2018, 08:52:33 PM »
Has no one shot this match yet?  I confess to being delinquent.

I must have missed it.  The last I saw was the September match for smoothies that also allowed pistols.  Please correct me if I am wrong.

I shot it several weeks ago using a ROA revolver, Taylor. Frankly, I've had better targets, but I'll photograph it soon and post the miserable results here.

I was going to go today. It snowed most of the morning, then it turned to rain. Didn't want to drive to the range to find it closed. Weather is supposed to be dry this weekend if  it is I will go Saturday. It is supposed to be cold.  The range doesn't close for low temps.

Here you go, Smo

As per D. Taylor Sapergia's suggestion, there will be an October SB Postal Match.  All you've got to do is take 5 shots at the linked target at 25 yd. or meters and post a photo/pic of it here.  This is just for fun, and the results thus far, e.g., September, have been wonderful, but the comments even better.  Hope to see your targets here, and have fun!  Paul.

Here's a link to the target, courtesy of long cruise & Dennis G.:  http://americanlongrifles.org/PDF/ALR_25_yd_postal.pdf  5 shots, as per past practice.

The October Postal match, as we discussed last month, was for pistols, not Smoothbores.  We've had a rifle match and a smoothbore match.  Now we'll do a pistol match.  It matters not to me if you want to handicap yourself with a revolver...still a muzzle loader in my books.  This is for fun and camaraderie.  Weather has turned nice and above freezing here, so I'll shoot mine soon.  Nice to see the firearm as well as the target, lads.  Good shooting!!

Where did Mavens target go? Maven I overlayed your target on an actual repair center. It would have scored at least a 45. Typically pistol matches consist of ten shots, shot offhand , that is one handed. That is not a bad target. Taylor I do not understand how he is handicaping himself with a revolver.  Have seen quite a few 100's shot with a revolver. If my memory serves there is one record shot at the Spring shoot at Friendship of 100 with 7 x's.

Rules are rules. The weapon in question definitely not a sidelock.

Maven,
If you and the match coordinators are ok with you shooting guns that are not allowed by ALR rules I have no qualms with that at all. Just don't post conversations or photos of those guns here on ALR. You are welcome to shoot whatever rules the match coordinators allow you to shoot.

Dennis & alacran,  This is why I used the firearm that I did:

Oh, since that was the only BP pistol I own, it was use it or not enter the Postal Match at all.  (And that's the last II'm going to say about it!)

As the rules question has come up I think it would have been wise to shoot there target,s and rules so you would have something to compare your target to. At the local clubs we always fall back to there rule book on ties safety ect.

I will defer to Maven for the ruling on one hand or two.  Personally, I like shooting with both hands...it's the way I was trained, and I certainly do better that way.  But if the shoot organizer wants it to be one handed, I'm still game.
I'd rather see participants in the match instead of eliminating potential subscribers over a guns/rule issue.
To enter, shoot the postal target and post an image of it here.  It's just for fun, so get some!

Dale H., Sorry I took so long to answer, as I wasn't sure your question was addressed to me.  In short, 2 hands are perfectly acceptable for the October Postal Match.

Thanks Maven:  appreciate that.

There are those who say, "it's a handgun...not a handsgun."  My sense of it is, we're looking for the best we can do, not the best we can do with limitations.  But as long as the field is level, we're all on the same page.

Lovely clear blue sky day, 13 C (no idea anymore what that is in Foreignheat), but comfy.  Bit of a wind making holding interesting.  Shot two targets with the same score, but this one has more tens.
Pistol is one I made as a Christmas gift for my wife's parents back in the last Century.  Both are gone now, so I have the pistol back.  It's fun to shoot!

.54 cal. pistol twist barrel
.530" pure lead ball and .018" denim patch with spit
requires a six o'clock hold with a bit of light under the bull for this sized target at 25 yards.

Last shot is the one in the 6 ring at 2 o'clock, naturally!  Ha!!  Sucks to be mortal.
