Early Philadelphia Screw Tip

Jim Parker asked me to help with a raffle prize for the upcoming Alabama Kentucky Rifle show Jan.10 thru 12. Mel Hankla is doing a presentation on Rifleman of the Cumberland. I decided to make this horn as a representation of what might have been carried . The horn has a two piece screw tip(chessman pawn tip) and the applied collar is stapled. Horn is scraped thin enough to see thru. Several originals in Art DeCamps' book have brass bands with cut out design  but I choose to make a band out of horn. The band has been colored to give it a faux tortoise shell appearance. Butt plug is maple with single row of rope carving. Eye staple is secured to the plug for strap attachment. Most of the originals were large horns and this one is 2.75" wide at butt and 16" along the outside curve.
