Changing Blade Shape of Finished Knife

Just got back into forging after taking the summer off.  I wanted a small patch knife to go with my pouch and original horn.  Started with a 4 inch piece of 1084 bar stock and finished the blade at 7 inches.  I was about to drill for handle, quench, and temper when I realized I didn't like the knife.  Back to the grinder. 





Here is my finished patch knife...gorgeous piece of Curly Maple from a scrap that Jim Kibler sent me.  I decided to let the knife age/patina on it's own rather than tea stain the blade...tippit

I like it, turned out very well. Especially like the reshaped blade. Looks like it will be an extension of your hand when being used.

I like your knife and love the taper from end to end. They always seem to slice and balance better IMHO.

That final shape has much more eye appeal than the original shape ;) I think I would make another and make the blade width even smaller with a different shaped handle just to see how it would look :-X. I like it but I think it could look even better ;D - my two cents worth :).

I would have to draw up a full size design to see what looks good to my eye. I make more modern hunting knives and have posted a few which got Pue-Pued here for being too modern. A quick guess would be something with a tapering wood handle from back to front octagon shaped being more flat on the side then top and bottom & mabe a pewter bolster. Maybe a "birds head" style wood handle.

Those are all beautiful knives...but my style is more rough forged.  One of my other patch knives is even rougher but slimmer with bone handle & poured pewter bolster...

All of my muzzleloaders will shoot into one ragged hole ALL DAY LONG ... it's just the 2nd or 3rd & other shots that tend to open up my groups ... !
