Work in Progress...Wing Bone Calls
« on: January 21, 2019, 04:15:18 AM »
Just after turkey season this past Spring, my son-in-law and I found the remains of a hen turkey that was predator killed (I have coyotes, foxes, and bobcats on the property).  The only thing left was the two wings, and a pile of feathers...so of course I salvaged the wing bones. A little scraping removed the little tissue that remained, and a few minutes with a small saw, piece of stiff wire, and a round needle file, and these were ready to glue up. I’ve wrapped the joints with sinew and hide glue, and the calls are functional now...just have to decide how I’m gonna decorate them.

Thanks for the nice comments guys!  Aaron, I was thinking of trying a little scrimshaw, at least on one of them. I’m also thinking of wrapping the joints with some red and black thread, or maybe some deerskin, or rawhide.  I need to fashion lanyards, too. Whatever I come up with, I’ll post pictures.
