More flatty less fatty
« on: February 15, 2019, 06:54:36 AM »
Finished a small day-hunting flask that holds 12 75 grain loads and is just 7" long.  Should drop nicely inside a hunting bag.  I ran into an internal delamination during thinning that resulted in  just over 1/16" wall thickness at the plug end.  It's a sturdy deep plug and hope it holds.

Just as I've discovered that I'm no threat to plumbers or electricians in the way of competition I've added professional horn workers to the list.  It's nevertheless enjoyable.

Those valves work nice.  I have them on some Treso flasks that live in my shooting box.  Fairly moisture resistant and easy to use at the range.

Thanks to all for looking and commenting.  This is another basic functional tool.

I'd be interested to know how folks deal with delaminations that are revealed during thinning a horn as it was a pretty large void that I ran into.  Would CA glue have penetrated well enough and held allowing me to keep the wall thicker?  Also this is a cow horn and it seems less dense than the bison was with 'grain' visible on the surface.  I couldn't get the really smooth high gloss surface using steel wool that I did with the bison.  I was wondering if that is an accurate observation.
