I use swiss 3 f in .45 and .40 cal. round ball rifles.  The .40 likes 40 grains of powder.

I use 86 grains of swiss 2 f in .45 cal bullet guns that I shoot out to 1,000 yards with bullets that are around 525 grains.   I also use 86 grains of 2 f swiss in , .53, several .54 and .73 cal. round ball rifles.

I use 1 or 1.5 swiss in shotguns.  Mostly because I have a supply of it and  have quit using 1 and 1.5 in my rifles.

It has been years since I have used Goex in my rifles.

I refuse to use Swiss any more. I think the price is a ripoff. I did use it exclusively for decades. I can tell you what I used.

I used 80gr of Swiss 2F in a .54 for elk, bear, and muley's. Always in a Hawken style gun with 32" barrel. I never lost any game with this load.

I always kept my hunting to 75yds or less.

Here are some pics of a range session with my .58 Getz barreled Allen Martin built rifle......... Amazing when you stumble on the one load that a gun REALLY wants. And that 90gr Swiss 2F group is actually 5 shots because I wanted to BE SURE ;)
Now I just have to tweak the barrel a bit to get the POI where I want it.
These groups were shot off a bench at 50yds.

My Colerain barreled turkey fowler also shows a serious preference for Swiss 2F over anything else.  The patterns improved immensely with all other factors remaining the same against Goex powder. Why? No idea.

Conversely I have yet to find a gun that really likes Swiss 3F..... everything I've tried it in .45-54 cal has been hot, usually high, and wild even with reduced charges compared to 3F goex.

Good shooting Mat.
That 90gr. load is very nice shooting indeed. Many people would be happy with the rest as well.

BTW - please advise what patch material and thickness & lube you were using?

Thanks Daryl,
That particular sheet was all shot using 40# cotton drill cloth lubed with Hoppes 9+ cut at the muzzle
40# cotton drill has been my go to for a lot of rifles. I've actually never mic'd it but it's gotta be in the .018-.020  range and good tough stuff.

Swiss 3F in my .40cal., 60grains. Depending on the barrel .395 to .403 ball, both teflon coated pillow ticking .022 thickness. I use 2F for .50 cal. hunting rifles.
