Va. Scew Tip Horn
« on: April 25, 2019, 03:53:17 PM »
This one is after a horn on pages 70-71 of Jay Hopkins' book Bone Tipped & Banded Horns. It is thought to be of Virginia origin.
It is about 14" around the out side curve, tip-to-tip it is about 12. The Walnut butt is about 2 2/4", it is held in place by the same Four Steel pins that hold the base band in place. A Brass furniture pull is used for thee strap finial. The collar is a press fit, the horn and tip are both threaded 5/8-11, the tip is also of Horn. Finish is AF followed by a coat of Saddle Brown leather dye and Brown shoe polish.

Oh man. That horn is just....right. It ticks all the boxes. Architecture. Finishes. Turning. That is going to look fantastic hanging from someone’s bag. Well done. God bless, Marc

Very nice, I like the look of that horn. Like the others said, not overdone but just right.
