Been working on this for a long time. I had planned on having it ready to show at the Knoxville show....I guess I missed that by a bit. :P As you can see this is along the lines of the Lion and Lamb gun. Has a Rice Early Dutch Light barrel in .54, 41" long and BIG at the breech. Chambers Virginia lock. All the brass is cast locally. EK furnished the box pattern. It has a single trigger hung in the wood. Going to have a lot of Christian Oerter in it, you'll notice the brass wire buttstock molding ala Oerter. I changed the tang carving after struggling with it for an entire day, the present drawing  went on quick.  The wood is an outstanding piece that originally came from Tiger Hunt. It had a twenty year old price on it of $400...way above my pay grade here... ??? At the time the pics were taken I was carving the tang area, the pics in that area are pretty washed out, but you get the main idea.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Nice job on the lion.  How did you make all the round circles?  Punch?  That sounded like an oxymoron, round circle.  Looking good.  Your incised carving at the tang also looks clean and crisp.  You might grow up to be a pretty good gunmaker someday. ;)

Agreed - IF he practices daily - no more sloughing off and playing.

Nail punch, that crew at Christian's Spring were apey about circles. That incised carving is going to end up relieved after lunch and siesta. My back is killing me after all the relief carving I did this AM.

All day yesterday was practice day. Started off this AM with an eraser and wiped out yesterday all together...yesterday no longer exists! :P

Dang Mike, I thought what I saw at Knoxville was over the top but you have raised the bar again with this one. Can't wait to see the end result.

Um, Mike?  Lions don't have spots.... Leopards do.
You are churning some seriously nice work.  We will put you in for a pay raise, soon.

Great looking rifle Mike. I hear those cast boxes are a pain. How was it getting everything fitted together?

Box? Did you fabricate it or is it a casting?

You heard right, but it's better than fabricating from sheet. Lots of work filing the knuckles to fit and the lid to lay flat. At this time I don't have the hinge pin in it, it's soldered shut while I work on the rest of the gun. I have figured out how I want to drill the hinge pin....I have had plenty of time to think about it! :P

After using the parting tool exclusively for the past 35 years even I can get fairly good! ;D I do some stabbing on occasion too, just not so much on this particular gun.

It's a sand casting from EK's master. These are the ones I was selling a couple weeks ago. I'll have a few more next week hopefully.
