A rifle for my friends up north
« on: May 07, 2019, 04:41:56 PM »
My friends from the Pennsylvania Company of Riflemen asked me to make them up a rifle to use as a fundraiser. It took me a year to get on the project but I finally finished up today.
I got some help from my friends Keith Vance and Randall Cantrall who did all of the decorative work and stock stain and finish (what I like to call “ Mountain DNA”).
This is a parallel sided 7/8” .50 from FCI. I bought the wood from Nathan at Harrison Gunstocks back in January at Jim Parker’s show in Alabama.
I’ll be delivering it to my friends on Friday. This gun was done with 100% donated time.
Not too awful bad for some Kentucky boys I recon.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Great job, Stoner.
Gee, Pennsylvania Company of Riflemen!  And you didn't make them a nice Southern Mountain Rifle?
I need to find out how to buy a raffle ticket, if it is to be raffled.  Let us know.

Well, I’m taking a little .40 cal Catauba Co. NC rifle up there to sell. I suppose they could choose. The choice would be easy in my opinion. I’ll keep y’all posted about tickets.
THANK YOU everyone for your kind comments.

Mighty fine looking rifle there, Wayne. Should raise some good money and make someone a very proud owner. A very generous donation by some very talented gentlemen.

Good look'n rifle, somebody's gonna be a Happy camper. What's up with that flint? Looks like it has a design chipped in it.

That’s what I call a Stoner Creek dura-flint!
It’s a piece of maple disguised as a black English.
As a raffle prize this gun is going to get picked up and played with by who knows who. I didn’t want to see a sharp flint come crashing down on some unsuspecting souls fingers.
I put a piece of wood in the jaws of another raffle gun a few years ago. The winner called upset because the lock would not spark. I told them to put a real flint in an then try it. They never called back after that :o

Fine rifle,Stoner. Hope them nawthern boys shine on it ,I am sure they will.
As to the flint story, I like it . Reminds me of 1st night in AF basic many moon ago. Newbie didn't change the dummy blade from is issued razor. Was the only one of us that didn't look like we been to the slaughter house.
TI about tore his head off, said he was shaving dummy whiskers with a dummy blade.!!! We all lost it.Many, many push ups followed. Was worth it.
I do same with new flint builds. Took one to the range a while back, and wondered why the L&r lock didn't spark...Duhhhhh. hahahaha ,snortttt!!!Have a goodun bros,Dave 8) 8)

That's pretty slick. Saves wear and tear on the frizzen too. Probably should put a plug in the muzzle too to keep peoples fingers out of it. Somebody should design a little trap to put in there :D
