Small Horn & Powder Measure
« on: June 14, 2019, 11:13:54 PM »
Made these up for one of the members here, first he's seen them, hope they'll work. The horn is about 6" long the butt is Maple, about 1 1/2", hollowed out about 3/4s its length, held in place by 4 Iron pins. The Two bands are also held in place by 3 as is the Pewter tip. As you can see it is relatively straight. It will hold just a bit over 10 65gr shots, could be used as a pocket/primer horn, especially for a small cal. gun.
The Measure was turned from Cow horn, Iron eye for strap, it holds just over 65grs.

Oh that is one sweet pair Tim.  That horn makes me smile, in a really good way.  A tiny banded horn.  Too cool.

That horn measure is neat too.  It almost looks ebony with that color.

God Bless,   Marc

That is a beautiful set. Would go great with a horn I have been playing around with.

Thanks for sharing, it's owner should be very happy with it.

Thanks, the small band had to be made up, the Two on the Right were the candidates. The one on the left started out like the Two of them.

How did you taper the hole, if you did?

That horn would be the epitome of perfection for a pistol. I'm not sure if I could effectively prime my pistol with it, but if so, it would be ideal for the woodswalks I shoot.

Just getting back on. I rough turned the out side on a Pen mandrel, that's what the 1/4" hole is for. Then chucked it up, drilled a 3/4" hole in it and turned the center out. It is easy to get the taper. If I get a chance tomorrow I will post a couple of Pix if the process and the tool.
