Adjustable powder measure
« on: June 18, 2019, 05:47:12 AM »
Needed to practice a bit of engraving on curved surfaces before doing a pistol butt cap so I knocked out this little brass powder measure.  Still not there yet but a butt cap is not as curved as a powder measure.  A little woodlands Indian influence.  The measure throws 30 to 90 grains.

Dave what is the inside diameter on your measure? I make mine 3/8" and they look skinnier than yours.

Brian,
All my previous measures had a 3/8" inside diameter.  These last 2 brass measures I made are 7/16" inside diameter.  I kind of like the 7/16" as I can make the measure a bit shorter and still hold the same charge.  I think 7/16" is good for .50 caliber and up and the 3/8" is a better choice for .45 and below.  Who knows, right?

Wow, a fancy store bought measure you say.  I have always been so poor that I had to make my own.

Yes indeed, that is some fine work. My old adjustable commercial measure has turned dark brown from age and use.  Maybe it's time to upgrade.   :-)

God Bless,   Marc

Mighty nice piece of work!

New member here, though I've been prowling around here and reading for a number of years. I've always admired the talent, knowledge, and artistry on display here and figured it was way past time to join up.

Anyhow, I thought you folks might like to see a much cruder attempt at a measure from forty years ago. It ain't much, but stood up to several thousand miles of tough Rocky Mountain trails back in my youth.
