Finished up the blunderbuss. Finally!
« on: July 05, 2019, 05:16:04 AM »
Finally got this thing finished up. Started it back in February I think. I had it totally finished, and was just putting the barrel back in for final assembly when I dropped the barrel straight onto the concrete floor. Snapped the tang right in half where the bolt goes through. There was some colorful language  for sure. So, I had to order a new breech plug, inlet it, put a new vent liner in and re-finish the stock and barrel. Anyways, it was a pain, but turned out well. It's an 11 ga barrel 16" long with a Twigg lock.

just out of curiosity, what was a blunderbuss intended for? Hunting, clearing the deck?

I would say exclusively close range (under 30 M) self defense/offense

When test firing it hit seven out of nine 00 buckshot pellets on a police silhouette target at 25 metres.

Pretty neat Justin!  My only constructive criticism is:  polish out the cast line on the bottom of the frizzen spring.

Just interested; what kind of load/components did you use.

   Tim

PS: Coach guns too I would think. TC

I used 90gr FFG and about 1/2" tamped Christmas tissue paper, nine 00 buckshot, and a bit more paper on top. Didn't have any 11ga wads at the time.
