Ready, set GO!
« on: July 20, 2019, 03:04:35 PM »
Already three weeks late on this, got it all layed out last Thursday.  Tang is all inlet and barrel pinned in now, So far I figure about 1 gallon of sweat per hour with this latest bout of global warming. :P Think I'll make it by CLA? Anybody's wallet starting to feel a little lighter? ;D
Bill Antes profile.....but that's about it for Antes influence on this one. The wood looked real knarly, but it seems to cut really well. Maybe I'll get the lock worried in today.....

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Extremely Deadly Longrifle. Just joking. It stands for Early Dutch Lancaster. I believe Allen Martin designed the profile. Usually 1 5/16" but this one made 1 1/4" act flats at the breech.

With the global warming here in the OHIO Valley the idea is to breathe
only if you have to or can remember how to.Wretched humidity and it
is a nuisance for me,my wife suffers from it due to asthma so I stay close.
The AC in my shop gave up the fight after 43 years of service. It was an
Amana I put in back in 1976 as a replacement for the one from 1964.
We hope to be at the CLA show in Lexington.I don't know if I will have any
thing to bring to sell or show.

If I did my math right, starting tomorrow you have 23 days to finish the gun up before CLA. That’s 554 hours. 100 hour gun. No problemo huh??

Mike even told me he was too busy to go fishing.  Wonder if he is sick?

I am heading East later this week, perhaps I will drop in and bug him for 15 min.

Are the Bethlehem and Bucks County rifles tied closely together?  They sure do look similar.

Mike,
They absolutely are!  Bucks Co and Lehigh are basically connected geographically.  Lots about the styles are similar. Who knows if they shared ideas and techniques, even apprentices, but the similarities are there.

Barrel is in and pinned, lock is in, buttplate is on, triggers are in. Today is a fun day of filing up the trigger guard. Boy is that fun. ::)

Yep really excited about the unknown.  For those of you interested in this rifle,  Mike is making it for me. Stoner is just ribbing me. I call this the Mike Brooks  vision rifle. We're gonna see what happens when you give a good gunsmith a set of parts and say have at it. Mike and I are friends and he has already made two guns for me. He, therefore, has some knowledge of what my measurementsare and that I like early rifles. The rest will be pure Brooks initiative and design. I can't wait to see what happens when you take the bridle off of Mike and to quote Stoner (let'r rip). It is a little daunting but I'm sure all will be fine in the end. I'm looking forward to owning another one of Mike's creations. Stoner won't get this one.
