BC not quite finished
« on: August 03, 2019, 02:44:41 AM »
2  pics of my present and last build. Bbl and lock parts have to be browned and then the engraving. Am struggling to complete this LR because of very  poor eyesight and so far have lucked out....although it takes a much longer time to complete each task.   Comments welcome whether good or bad.....Fred

It's good Fred. Can you see well enough to still do the engraving? I assume you have the optivisor warmed up!

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Fred,  Your eyesight didn't let you down on this one. The carving is outstanding, both in design and execution.   It's a beautiful rifle.

Great rifle Fred. I have always loved your style of carving. It is bold and not the norm but has its own warmth that seems to suit your style of rifle building. Whoever gets this rifle I am sure will be very pleased with it. I don't know that I will ever have the chance to meet you but I would like to say thank you for sharing your work. Beautiful rifle Sir.

When I look at a rifle, the first thing I look for is the architecture.  For my approval, as if that meant anything, the rifle must be shootable.  Not all are.  But this one has it nailed.  The drop at the comb and heel are perfect, without being exaggerated.  Fred your lock panel and off side are lovely.  This is just a deluxe rifle.  Very accomplished work.

Thank you  Taylor and others who commented. My 2nd attempt in 1978 at building a LR was a Lehigh and at that time I was just building personal , hunting muzzleloaders and that Lehigh turned out to be  a very bad cheekslapper {completely useless}  and to such an extent that I sold  it as a wall hanger for next to nothing.

Lesson learned and luckily ,  nary a cheekslapper was built again.....Fred

As with all of your rifles I have seen through photos (would love to see and hold one firsthand) that is exceptional work.

Fred:  Keep going - you have nailed a nice Bucks Co. rifle!  I esp. like your interpretation of the rear RR entry extension!   I would like to pull the trigger on this on one!  No need to pad your cheek here.    Hugh Toenjes

Fred, regardless of whether you make another, or this is truly your last firearm, what you have given to our hobby/vocation is priceless.
I always enjoy looking at your work, and your comments regarding muzzleloaders are a good influence on me and other builders.  I have learned many, many little "tricks of the trade" from looking at your work or reading your input.
A large "Thank you" for your contributions!
