Bucks County Style LR Done
« on: October 19, 2019, 06:10:55 PM »
Finally completed this BC which will be my last build....lucky to have done it. The lock is a Chambers' Golden Age.  Bbl is a Rice .50  "B" weight swamped X 46". All brass hardware. Plain maple stock cut from a plank. The engraving was done by Tim Adlam of Oshkosh, WI who I've known for 25 yrs.  Parts made by me are....Pbox & release,  sideplate, all the RR pipes, Mcap, trigger and plate, sterling silver cheek star. plus the bbl lugs and other small items.

The Bplate  was advertised as a BC but req'd the rounding of the faceted tang and a thumbnail filed in. The TG was a Goehring # 47 { Verner} and was made into a Shuler w/ thumbnails filed  on both finials. I would have liked to build a BC using the Shuler Bplate and TG which weren't available when I started building BC LRs and are presently available from Knob Mountain if I recall correctly, but that's not possible. Some of the pics aren't that clear....took them hurriedly between the rains. Have sent my BC buttstock template to  approx. a dozen builders so there  must be some who like the BC style...hope the pics help somewhat.....Fred

Wow.  I don’t think a Bucks County rifle is going to get much better than that.  Not to my eye anyhow.

It's a wonderful rifle Fred, and a nice way to finish your building 'career'.  Your carving is so well executed that one doesn't notice the absence of figure in the wood.  And the engraving compliments the relief carving perfectly.  Very well done!!

Nice, classic Fred style. I have always liked how you did these. I like your choice of wood also, Carving always seems to pop more with plain wood. Surprise us and do another Fred.

Thanks to all for your kind words. As evidenced in my BC builds, my  carving "strays" from the originals which have incised carving. ....but this BC has all the other  features of a Shuler BC. Mike and Taylor's posts are valued, among many  others,  because both are builders who produce exquisite MLers and are among the few "top notch" artisans who build not only MLwrs but "works of art" Just wish I could have  done  that.  I've been ret'd from a day job for 25 yrs  and as was said, will now retire from my "best job" of building MLers which I started in 1976. Surely will miss it.....Fred

I too have admired your work for many years.  Your work on this one is so fantastic that you don't even notice that it is a plain piece of maple.  Sure would be great to be the owner of that one.  Whoever it is he or she is a lucky person.  Thanks for the postings over the years as I have enjoyed every one.   8)

What a beautiful piece, if you feel the need to stop building, that is the perfect one to call the “last one”!

Hey Fred,   I remember trying to get you over to the traditional side of Bucks Co. , but you do have your own style that is easily recognizable all on a Bucks Co. platform.   Your work is mighty fine,  withdrawal from building is not pretty, hang in there and keep building--just for therapy...
best wishes
