Making a hinged patch box
« on: October 21, 2019, 05:18:13 PM »
I'm attempting to recreate the three patch box Bean rifle and need to make a few hinged patch boxes.  I've found a couple tutorials on here but the pictures are very blurry.  I think it's something to do with Photobucket but I'm not sure.  Does anyone have a decent tutorial on making the hinge?  I can figure it out but a tutorial with a few pics would be nice.

Gary Brumfeild had a real good one on his site. I don't know if it is still up but you can look and see. I can't remember what the name of the site was. Or you could drive over to my place if you want and I can show you how I make them.

I just finished a patch box. But not a Bean style. It is all on video and goes into quite a lot of detail. I will be posting it here as part of the Lancaster rifle series I have been doing soon.

It's a lot like cutting dovetails and I know you can do that. One difference is instead of cutting the back of the hinge knuckle out squarely, Make it bevelled so you can't see light through it. It's easy to do with a cold chisel.
