OK,

  I've got a new bag, (G Kevil, Bambi bag), that I'm setting up for my fowlers.  Right now, I have a huge shot snake, with a brass English shot head,  that I carry around as well.  It's just too cumbersome.  What I'd like, is a small, primitive, carry inside the bag shot pouch.   One that will hold 10 to 15 loads.  No shot head, just a spout to pour into a measure.

    Any idea where I could get one??

Something like this?



The bag is buckskin, spout is turned antler, plug is walnut.  Holds a bunch of .50 cal balls.

This is more like what I'm looking for.

Mostly the type on the left.  Seems to have a little better spout for pouring shot.  (NOT balls)

I have the two on the right.  I got them from Curt Lyles, I use the middle one for shot and the right one for balls.

Contact Ray Feree, AKA Poor Bull. He is a member here and does a very nice ball or shot pouch. Prices are right and you won't be dissapointed with the product.

Couple of design points to think about.  Rigid versus soft leather is a big choice.  In the heat of a quick reload, especially when the bag is getting low on shot, rigid sure works better for me.   The next I build is going to have a grommet or hole at the bottom so I can hang it from a thong any time I want.  When the action gets hot, it's really nice to hang shot pouch outside the bag for easy access.  Doesn't have to live there, but handy when you need the option.  I have been calling the rigid ones flasks, but I'm ready to be corrected.

This is a photo of the first I made, always a learning process and leading to more.  It's about the size of my fist, and holds 3 pounds of shot!  Way too much for my needs, so the next will be the size of a lemon, aimed at holding around a pound.  The two grommets were on the model I was aping, and are next to useless for me.   That smaller pouch is about the size of a cassette tape and holds a couple dozen 11 gauge fiber wads and overshot cards, for another size reference.  This stuff doesn't have to be big to support a full day of shooting.

Smallpatch, here's one similar I made for a customer to hold only about 8 oz.  This one will hold 12.5 oz and is made from 6-7 oz bison leather with a Cocobolo spout and either a cork or blackwood stopper.  I will be working on the cork later to attach a small cord.  This is neither flimmsy nor stiff like veg tan, but has a nice semi firm temper and fits in your hand nicely.  The one with the hardwood stopper is about 7 1/4 in. long and all are about 2 3/8 wide.   The models with the cork stoppers will be around 6 3/4 inches long. 
I find that most using these are hunters and normally won't take that many shots in a day and don't want to carry around more than they need and don't take up much in your bag.

Got another batch in the works now kid. Yours will be in that group. I will use an offset brass "D" ring on yours just at the bottom of the curve. Will ride exactly as you wish.

It's nothing like your turned spout Gary. Actually I was looking at your example on frontierfolk.com while I was uploading my picture on ALR.  I have a bad habit of multiple windows.  ;D Unfortunately it does not mesh well with dial-up. :o

Thanks, the turned spout is more a support when not working with veg tanned leather.  Most likely not PC but sure looks good with the bison leather.

JC, how much shot will it hold? Would like it big enough for about 2lbs, or 25 to 30 shots for dove shooting, as I'm not going to carry it in the pouch it could be alittle bigger.
