Here in Maine I can't see how those bugs could have survived in the north and western part of the state.  Just hoping.  I live in the "tropical" SE part.

Wildlife scientists were tagging young moose and found, ready for this, 40,000 ticks on one.  I guess all were similarly afflicted.  It's a wonder any of them survive and most don't.

That is absolutely terrible...….  Just me talkin.....  I have heard how bad it was but that si beyond bad.

My house is in the middle of 3 1/2 acres of woods of which I would conservatively say is 50% ash.  They are dying at an alarming rate.  I had to cut 8 big ones last fall as they were close to the house.  It is sad to see them go as they are great trees.  I have a fireplace so I can burn some but I have a ton all ready and more are dying.   :'(

😳 40,000! I went looking for morels tonight after work and had 5 of them just getting dug in. Those are the 1st ones of the season here. I was hoping we might not have any this year as we generally have them before now.

I have a theory, actually a bit more than a theory, concerning the why and how of the US tick problem and diseases they carry.  I absolutely cannot see any reason for the existence of those little devils.

I would be interested in hearing your theory... Or you can PM me if you think that would be more appropriate.

Regarding recoil, I usually concentrate so much on the target that I really do not notice either recoil or noise.  I DO notice the cloud of gray smoke hiding the target!

Hanshi, I too am interested in your theory.  I was a biologist working with wetlands and wildlife for many, many years, and have noticed rises and falls in the tick population, as with animal populations.  Never considered any correlation between the two.

I used to have an old sock with powdered sulfur in it, and just tapped it against my lower legs and feet.  Once or twice I would find a tick on me, but it was a rare occurrence.  Here in Ohio, I may have to start using that old sock again, as last year I did find a couple trying to sample my blood.

Craig, I remember way back that some folks would dust themselves with sulfur using an old sock.  While ticks weren't as big problem back then, chiggers were.  Chiggers could be a worse misery than poison ivy.

Here is a picture from this fall.  Mine is nowhere near as pretty as most of the ones posted.  Great shooter and I am not afraid to walk around the woods with it though.
.36 cal with some character. It looks like it was someone's  first attempt at a build with the couple imperfections it has.  It was the right price at the time and has bee a blast to shoot.  Holds it's own on the Woodsman Walks too.

That rifle looks pretty good to me.  It doesn't take fancy to be a fine hunting rifle.
