I am trying to replace a broken mainspring in a Russ Hamm flintlock. The pieces of the old spring are not available so there is no pattern or measurements to reference. Is there anyone here who is aware of anyone who may have an original mainspring, that could be purchased, photographed or measured? I prefer purchasing, but; that may not be an option. Any advise or suggestions would be most welcome. Lock measures 5" tip to tip, height bottom to top just rear of pan flair in front of cock is 3/4", mainspring hole to front of tumbler thumb (cock relaxed or fired position) is about 2 5/64 inches. I can provide photos is I can figure how to post them here on this forum.

I have used Russ Hamm locks. Try a small Siler. May take a little modification but is about as close as you can get.

Get Kit Ravenshear's book on springs, TOW and others have it and some 1075 spring stock from DGW its easier to form.
Make a paper pattern since you have no spring to use.
Its not rocket science just a irritation for those of us who only make one now and then.
Or find something that is close and drill a pin hole as needed.

As DP says, the small siler spring will likely work, but you'll have to drill a new hole through the plate for the spring support stud, and plug up the old one. Still a lot easier than making a new spring.

If you get stuck and would like 'assistance' contact Stan Hollenbaugh. In addition to making the Ditchburn lock he also does lock restoration. He replaced a broken sear spring and tuned up a Robert Chadwick lock for me several years ago.

Hi, Im Robert Chadwicks daughter, Natalie. I'd love to find a Chadwick rifle for sale, he never got around to making one for my son. He passed away in 2004.

I do all sorts of lock work including making springs. My charge to make a mainspring is $62.97 plus $7 shipping and handling and sales tax for VA residents. You will need to send me the lock, but I can fit an appropriate hand forged spring made just for that lock. PM me if interested.

Cayuse;
Depending on what Russ Hamm lock you have, of course, some old CVA mainsprings fit fine. CVA had Russ's locks copied in Spain.

Go to track wolfs catalog. all the gun parts are full scale find a spring that looks like it'll fit, may need to drill a new holding pin hole. I've done that to a good many old locks with good success. Tom
