I didn't want to hijack the other thread on dies so I started a new one. When you guys are cutting threads on the screw tip horns do you use any king of oil or grease.Even when I go slow and careful I seen to get chatters and break outs. I'm using new 5/8 11 NC tap and die made by Hanson. I didn't have any oil so I tried liquid soap. At least their clean.

Thanks Tim. I'll give it a try.I've just about used up all my scrap pieces trying to learn to do this. I'll find something.

A horner at friendship suggested that it was easier to cut threads in horn if the horn was hot. He didn't say how hot but related to me that he used a heat gun when forming the round hole for the plug.
