Title: Plan to boil linseed oil this saturday, please check recipe.
Post by: Rolf on October 14, 2010, 08:31:08 PM
I'm now the proud owner of 2 teaspoons of home made lead white.
This is what I plan to do:

2 teaspoons lead white
2 tablespoons of crushed eggshell (eggshells are 97% CaCO3
1 pint(500ml) raw linseed oil

Heat in a clean paint can in a sandbath to 2000C (4000F) for 30 minutes.
I plan to use a electric hotplate and do it outside.

Anything else I should do?

Have a fire extinguisher handy, wear gloves and an apron, and good luck.

Also, a lid for the can would be a very good idea! You can toss it on the can when she "goes" ;D

Tim, they won't ship varnishes, oils, ect by air. Stuff like this can't be shipped as regulare mail. It has to go by land/sea transport, and that costs a fortune. But thanks for the suggestion.

Best regards
