Could anyone guide me to where I could see more pix of original or contemp. longrifle gun chests.I only see two on the cla sight, and cant find any here. thank you for any help, Dan

Do a search under gun chests and see what comes up. I know Tim Crosby had pictures of a couple of them and looked great.

Here you go, I had trouble finding them myself.

Tim, Thank you so much, that is the stuff I am after, the dimensions and pictures are of great help.Beautifull work !
-
Thanks, I do not have any plans I just make them up as I go along but if I can be of any help just ask. Here is another style chest that would only have to be lengthened and have a drawer put in. You could also put tall legs on it and make kind of a sideboard.

Tim, The dimensions in the link is all that is needed for now.Thanx again for finding it for all to see. It'll be a fun project.I think using it as a coffee table is a good idea as well!

R.L. Wilson's book, Steel Canvas has an original that you might want to look at. Its in color and full of longrifles too. Gary

Yes gary, I have that as well.Good stuff in there. ;D

Tim......I know, this coffee may not be working this morning, but I have looked at the chests, really nice by the way, but
I haven't been able to figure out what the little round "plug" with the leather thong is for? Hopefully it isn't a drain?
Also, have you ever looked at the fancy one that Mark Silver made?.........Don

Thanks Don. That "plug" is one of the drawer locking pins. lts a piece of horn I turned and inserted a piece of pianio wire about 3" long in it. With the drawer pushed all the way in I drilled down through the bottom into the runner on the drawer. Slide the pins, one on each side, in and the drawer cannot be opened. Lock the top and all is secure.
Yes, I have seen the one Mark did, well done and nice looking.

I would love to have one of them. ;D. Got to get a bigger living room first. :( AL

Wow, great chests all !!
Since they look like furniture and not like gun cabinets, may I suggest they would add a layer of security to the storage of the long rifles as well? Crooks would probably pass right by them.
After 26 years of locking myself and armories up, I think about these things.

There are two very nice chests on CLA in the for sale section.

Anybody ever ask you who's grandmother is kept in the coffin in the living room?? ;D ;)
-
Yes they have. By the way I have posted a new price on the two I have listed on the CLA.
