Just finished an applied tiphorn. It measures about 13 inches with a dark-stained cherry plug with a dark horn band and aged brass tack in the end. The tip is turned tan horn dyed dark brown and measures about 1.5 inches. The staple is steel wire. I used a wash of golden yellow Rit dye on the main body getting darker towards the tip.

The staple is shaped with wire, then you have to compare the length of the staple so that, when you insert the ends, it protrudes into the spout hole about 3/4 of the way. Then you take a 1/4" rod or old sawed off screw driver, put it in the spout and lightly hammer the ends back--done! Hope that makes sense...

Very good work.

In otherwords just 'clinch' it over? [like if you would clinch a nail over from the inside of the board.] No glue or sealer used?
Thanks Macon

Macon,
Yes, exactly--just like bending over the end of the nail. No glue or sealer.

Looks good. In the pic is part of the tip the stopper? If so do you have one with the stopper removed? The color is great, as is the turning on the base and band.

Tim,
The tip does not yet have a stopper--somehow I like the look of horns without them. I will have to work on one in the near future...
