Gents, have wanted a 28 for some time so here goes.
I have an old Track pre carve Fusil stock that has a narrow barrel channel and would like to find a slimmer profile barrel then the regular 20gauge in 28ga. The channel is a frogs hair or two under an inch at the breach and just under/over .75 at the muzzle.(I need to remeasure,it's at Taylors)
Does anyone make a slimmer profiled barrel and plug that will work for this project? (my first)
The lock and furniture is still made by TOTW and will be ordering it when I find a suitable barrel.
It won't be fancy,'cause my dog chewed the corner off the toe on the buttstock ! ...the little bas....! Fix that when the time comes,I guess. Just want to make a good usable 28ga. French Tradegun replica. Thanks in advance for any input.

Don't know if they'll have what you're looking for but you can check Rice's barrel chart.....scroll around this page and you should find the dimensions and a configuration sketch for each barrel listed:
http://www.ricebarrels.com/chart.html
I bought their Golden Age 42" B-weigh x .54cal(.28ga) smoothbore barrel for a Virginia...

I think you are referring to smooth rifle barrels. Not sure if Rice make a tradegun/fowler barrel. If they do, I'd be interested! :)

Looked right over that nugget...is it anything that North Star West or Caywood might carry?
-
Don't know about Caywood, but NSW's barrels are the same profile as a .62.

Check out Long Hammock....352.748.7373 Talk with Riley .... They make some nice fowler barrels for Chambers.. I have a 46" 20 ga from them slender OTR tapered and flared....

Dr.Boone,
I'd really like a lighter profile for the 28.Maybe M&G,dunno.

LB - What if.....
You bought that 28 bore trade gun bbl from Track and bribe Taylor to turn it down to the approx dimensions of your stock. To tell the truth, I've been wanting to order one to lighten up myself.....Lynn

L.B Your barrel channel sounds like nearly a drop in fit for one of Larry Zornes Mould and Gun Shop barrels. Call him and get his measurements and compare with yout stocks barrel channel. He does have 28 ga barrels and I know they build into a reasonable weight gun.

Check with Ed Rayl. His copy of the Bumford Trade Gun barrel might fit.

Speaking of the NSW barrel:
Our 28 gage is 1.080" at the breech (about 1 1/16"after draw filing) so would fit there. They are .700" at the muzzle so might have a gap in your pre-carve if it is 3/4" channel as you describe. Your precarved barrel channel will restrict just how light of a barrel you can fit in your gun. It sounds like your stock was cut to fit the typical 20 gage smoothbore barrels available these days that are .750" at the muzzle.
