Here is my attempt at carving a Lehigh for our friend Smallpatch .... Hope you like it Dane ... !!
Not as clean as Kibler's ...... thats because I don't have any of those Keebler elves in my shop .......... I'll be here all week !!!!

Well, I'll be the first. It's gorgeous! I love the effect created by all detailed incised work, veining and chip cuts. It creats a very rich look. Think I'm the one who might need to try harder! Thanks for posting this.
Jim
-
Wow! that is great and perfect for the style
-
Both of you make me want to break my fingers and just quit!! That is beautiful Allen
-
Now that's pretty! Love the mix of incised and low relief, with subtle molding cuts. Just great!
-
Beautiful! That design could be a real mess without perfect execution.
-
I really appreciate folks like you and Jim Kibler posting this kind of stuff. It really helps me focus my thoughts and aspire to a higher level of work.
-
James, you've said a mouthful there. There is a lot to this work of carving art, and Allen, you have outdone yourself.
Love this dueling carving...bung a bung bung bung.
-
You out Lehighed the Lehigh's, beautiful!
Robby
-
I think Allen's channeling some original makers. He probably does it at night with candlelight, special chants and incantations.
-
wow--- imagine what Allen could do with a couple of them Keebler elves runnin around wipin his brow with a kerchief and bringing him mineral water....
awesome work
K
-
Just downright beautifull. Looks like it's stabbed in. How many radius gouges were used. ???? Bob
-
I can't begin to tell you all, just how pleased I am. Mr Martin is an artist, beyond compare. AND one $#*! of a great guy, and just a bit of a comedian. :P
As you've probably already guessed, I am just chomping at the bit to get this beauty in my hands.
Oh, and just one more thing...... she's all mine.... nanner, nanner, nanner!!
Sorry, couldn't resist. 8) ;) ;D
-
Wooo!
And what's Smallpatch's current bid?? ;D
Awesome,
Jeff
-
AMartin, ever consider making replica casts of your carvings? Jim Kibler? It's another great way to lose money, I am sure, but what a resource study piece these castings would be.
T
-
In other words, that is truly spectacular, Allen. Very rich in variety of cuts, and in design. Man, oh, man.
Tom
-
Dane, Your significant other is gonna be serious Jealous of that girl. You better start buttering her up. I have a couple of Al's girls and it's serious LOVE. Guess it's old @$#% porn. ;D
Bill
-
Wouldn't it be cool to be able to go back 200 years and carry that to a shooting match !!!!
You probably couldn't shoot because of everybody crowding around to look at the rifle.
-
ANOTHER amazing carving pic! Just curious, but how small are those veiners and gouges you're using? I'll never get close to that kind of work, and I want to use my lack of tools as an excuse! :D
-
That is sweat!
-
I'm with you Dr Delbert! Break my fingers and move on.That is some serious carving work. Almost took my breath away! One of the reasons I like doing plain Southern guns! I have a rock hard piece of #5 maple from Tiger Hunt that I'll try for my first Lehigh, just hope I don't turn it into a $5.00 table lamp!
-
Wow! Allen, Outstanding. I wonder how I manageed to miss this yesterday. How about some other shots at this stage?
Thanks, Tim C.
-
Allen and Jim you both set the bar really high and provide inspiration for us all. Thanks for sharing examples of your work with us !
-
The hair might be gettin grey but the eyes are still working just fine! Beautiful and inspirering work my friend!
-
All I get is a stack of blue boxes, filled with white question marks ???

Makes me feel a little better..... at least he's not a genius at EVERYTHING!!
-
Sorry Allen, still not seeing anything but a bunch of boxes with an X in the middle. ???
-
apparently your Keep and Share site rquires us to register and login in order to view the photos.
-
I'm sure glad he can build rifles! He may be looking for another job if he
worked in the computer field, LOL. ;) Sorry Allen just couldn't resist.
Outstanding craftsmanship by the way!!!!
-
OK guys, Allen is one $#*! of a builder, BUT, he can't seem to get his photos loaded.
Let's see if I can make it happen.

Move over Herman Rupp!!! Superior in every way Allen.
-
Did I say WOW? What an understatement. Thanks for the extra pics, ya know you're gonna have to do it again once the finish is on ;)
Tim C.
-
Sweet Jeepers, It is worth the wait!!
Robby
-
WOW!! I'm speechless...
Ed
-
That looks just beautiful Allen! I love it!
-
Geez louise! That is carving that you can just keep on looking at. Busy yes, but masterfully done. Amazing work Allen.
-
Allen, how long did it take you to do all the carving? When you stain it will you use the same strength stain on the carving as the rest of the gun or will you thin it as you go over the carving? Very,Very nice work. AL
-
AMerril,
I can answer that. Less than two days. Allen sent me the "rough" drawings on the evening of the 8th. He sent me these this morning.
Who says there's no such thing as "good and fast"??
-
Allen, your carving is amazing, your eye for the art and then transferring it to the wood is amazing as well. An artist divine! Thanks for sharing. Dane, congratulations! Bob
-
WOW, and he doesn't make lady liberty look like Marge Simpson, ;D
Bill
Yer one lucky Dude, Dane.
-
It just keeps geting better.
-
Oh man, I thought that was my ex-wife.....Lady Liberty huh? Seriously, I am just stunned at how well you captured that style of carving. Makes my work look like cave petroglyphs. Maybe I need a sharper rock?
-
Very nice Allen!
I think this rifle looks to be one of the fanciest ones that I have seen built by you.
Dane you are very fortunate to be able to get such a nice quality rifle by one of the best.
Please post finished pictures.
I love it.
-
I like that carving hats off to you guys that can do that my carving attempts look like they were done with a 3lb hammer and a dull buther knife. lol
-
Well! Now my butt hurts cause I just fell out of my chair!
-
That is drop dead gorgous. My better half doesn't appreciate things like this. But when I showed her the pictures, she was speechless. Smallpatch you are one lucky dude to have a work of art like this.
-
Amen, brother.
I just can't wait to get her in my hands. Soon, very soon.
-
Wow, If I only had one rifle, I would be very happy with that one. Gary
-
WOW ... that carving couldn't have come out better. Very, very nice job indeed. I'm envious of that talent to say the least !!! ;D
-
Impossible--at least for us mortals. ::)
-
Well, The rifle (better known to us as the "Busty Brunette") is on the way.
Here's a couple of photos of the beauty.
