Really good turnout at Heffley this year, I was only there for 3 nights & there was approx. 120 camps the first night! Taylor, Daryl, Crispy, Hatchet Jack, Leatherbelly, & several other noteables from Prince George were there. Lots of kids too! I took my 2 grandsons along & we all had a lot of fun! Here's a few pix to start with. Taylor & co. will be back after the shoot ends on the 6th.

Bob, you'd be surprised what you can do! I went this year even though I'm still recovering from colon cancer surgery last winter & again in spring. I promised my 2 grandsons we'd go & once I got there I had a lot of fun! I never fired a shot, but walked them all over the rather large facility & managed okay. I'm glad I pushed myself to go!

Ah, the good old days! ;) I can't shoot as straight or keep going as long, but a rendezvous is still a $#*! of a lot of fun! Especially when you've got young-uns along.

No smoke this year Roger... it was such a wet "summer" there are no forest fires! ;D I'm tempted to go back again for the weekend, but that would be pushing my luck I think. ::)

Hey buddy! Sorry I missed you up there! I went to Taylor's lodge to say my g'byes Sunday night & everyone was well lubricated by the time I got there. Nobody seemed to know where they were leave alone where you were camped! :o I'll call you over the weekend so we can compare notes on the trip. :D

The shoot is over as of today, so in the next day or 2, hopefully Taylor, Daryl, & Crispy should have more to add here. I expect they're on the road this afternoon. Safe trip home guys!

I just got back on Monday night. There were 152 camps registered by the end of the rendezvous. As Harnic said, good time had by all and I think this was the best weather we have ever had up there.. I will post some photos in a day or two. Shooters from Saskatchewan, Alberta, BC, Washington and Idaho.

I got home on Saturday evening...left two days early for work reasons. I will go out on a limb and say that this year was the best BC Rendezvous I've ever attended. The weather was perfect...rained one night only, and was hot during the day, and comfortably cool for sleeping. We were allowed to have campfires...no forest fires burning in the province, and that was a welcome thing for those cool evenings. The shooting and other competition was keen with as many as 150 competitors on the line at a time. I will encourage Daryl to comment on his chunk match...two incredible strings were shot with just hunting rifles.
I didn't even take a camera, so am enjoying seeing your pictures Harry. Now I'm looking forward to October 8, 9, and 10 - our Thanksgiving Day - at Cache Creek. This is their first annual Thanksgiving match, and their billing it as the "Desert Shoot".

Taylor, we too enjoyed the visits! I wish we could have stayed longer, but that's for sure next year. My "grandsons" Steven & Noah had an absolute ball there & want to go for the whole enchilada next year. I have to find Steve something along the line of a TC Seneca, he got hooked shooting Greg's little rifle this year!
What's the Cache Creek affair? Sounds interesting & only 2.5 hours away! Maybe Steven & I can pop out for that!

Robby, the south central part of British Columbia is a mix of open grasslands & pine forest, all very beautiful. Good hunting, great fishing & lots of wonderful scenery. The Heffley Creek area is particularly pretty, relatively dry... a great place for a rondy! It's quite breath-taking! As you can see in the pix, we all have a lot of fun!

If I have done this right, there should be a hot link to some photos from Heffley. There were around 40 primitive camps and 152 camps total by the end of the week. What may not be apparent is that primitive is separated from the main range by a high dirt ridge about 40 - 50 feet high. The view from on top of the ridge was terrific. The smoothbore trail shots were taken from the top of the ridge as well as the one looking down on primitive. The squirrel trail is in behind tin town and had 19 metal squirrels with counterbalances so that they tipped over when hit but came back upright. Most squirrel targets were between 30 and 40 yards. Also a couple of shots of council fire where prizes were awarded, naming ceremonies conducted and the day's dryballers fined $2 (going to the kids hay scramble) and 2 (un)fortunate individuals awarded the dryball bib to wear for the next day. Bib has Powder Patch Ball written upside down so that it can be lifted and read by the recipient prior to loading.

The "Dry Balling" thing is getting carried away! I think the fine should be ten bucks. Most dry balls during the duration, a trophy of shame, say a "weeping heart" or a "last trail" type trophy. Keeps it lighter. After all,it's a small technical issue. LOL! ;BTW, I never dry ball. ;D :o well,maybe once!

I may have come close to a technical dry ball maybe :>) On the BCBPA trail with combined pistol, rifle, and hawk & knife; you arrive at the next target and have to ask yourself --- have I reloaded both guns? did I remember to change the powder measure from one to the other, did I miss seeing a hawk target etc. Almost tried to punch the wrong card as well; with 3 cards and trying to keep up with the rest of the group, make a hit and grab the first card handy to punch sort of thing. There is a rumour that I fired a couple of flash in the pans to check the flint function before loading the rifle :>) :>) :>)
Anyways, had a good time and lots of challenging shoots.

Got home yesterday- still unpacking, but couldn't stay away from the forum. Yeah - I dry balled - more than once even - so much going on and one (me) tends to visit while loading. I'm not the only one with too much to say, though.
Back to unpacking and putting 'stuff' away. Lawn is VERY green - lush and about 10" tall - noon and still too wet to cut.
Sopmegood strings in chunk, as Taylor noted.
Was especially nice to see Kerry Neilson (of this site) there - top dog in chunk - with a flinter. Sad that Dave and Gail didn't make it.
Will post results later. Back to work now.

OK - grass is cut - weed-whacking done - refreshing with Pacific Western Brewery's Best with clammato juice of course. Found the chunk results underneath my bags and horns - big box - now unpacked.
This year, we paid 3 places in smoothbore chunk 50 yards, same range as rifle - for those who routinely get 1" to 2 1/2" groups at 50 yards offhand with your smoothbores, you might have done well indeed - no smoothbore shooter hit the page with all 10 shots, so it would have been an easy victory - maybe - one must actually try it deliberately to actually know for sure. This year we allowed sitting position for those who cannot get up and down as easily as others - this was taken advantage of by a number of the more limber shooters, but none benefited from it. Prone being the next best solid position to shooting off a bench.
Smooth Bore 1st - was a Women/Lady from Oregon with a string of 37.624" - second was Hatchet Jack with a score of 38.415" and third was crowd favourite Dogspit (she's a fine lass who wears a clout) with a score of 45.253". Incidently, we scored misses at 4.5"- which is the closest side. Next year, it will be a full 5 3/4" making the target square (measure for .50 outside the paper). Second place actually had more hits on the page than first place score. Error in the method - will be corrected for next year. Hatchet jack wold have won by several inches - ow well - we'll perfect the scoring for next year. All smoothbore shooters used 20 bores - yeeouch!
1st Junior had a string of 26.198" using a .32 - again. Second Junior with 38.831".
1st Lady was Albertan Lola M. at 21.879" with a .45 flint rifle with second place to our own Kim Jones with 27.057" using a .50 Flinter. 3rd to a brand new flint shooter, 2-gun Giggles with a 36.495" string.
1st Mens was our (ALR) own Kerry Neilson with a string of 7.082" shooting a .45 Flinter(I think).
2nd was PG shooter and ALR forum member Neil Hunter 8.286" probably shooting his wife's rifle, a little flintlock .40.
3rd went to Ft. St. John resident Quinn with a measure of 11.993" using a .54 cal. cap-lock Hawken - bet that wore on him a bit.
If I had to guess, I'd say most of the men's scores ran in the 12" to 24" range. Longest string in Men's was 40.622" which was longer than Ladies or Junior's rifles and only 5" better than smoothbore's longest.
We had 17 men compete this year, up from last year.
I figure we can handle 50 competitors - total in 2 strings - so, if these strings seem really high to you, come and compete words alone have little meaning.
Last year, 2nd and third men's were separated by .001". Imagine!

Wow, what a blast! ;D I tell ya I had the absolute time of my life!! ;D First off, it was great to put some faces to the names Ive met online over the last couple years. What an absolutely great crowd of folks. Thx again to the ALR forum and members for all the tips and advice, I bet ya I put them all to use at some point over the last couple weeks. I also think I couldnt have picked a better time to do the best shooting of my life, with winning the chunk shoot on Monday, keeping pace with the crowd the remainder of the week ( even for the dryball bib) and also placing again in a pistol shoot on Fri.. Returning next year is not a question, waiting to do such will be the problem for me!! Now that I have an official "chunk" rest ( my "prize"), I promise to practise with diligence so as to hopefully do at least as well upon my return. Ive shot with the rest twice now, and although close to the Heffley results I can see some improvement in consistency and accuracy is needed. My own pictures were somewhat lacking in excitement, I found myself just having to much fun to think about them at the time. Seems like the guy shootin thru the hole in the 'wall' from prone had it fairly well figured out....unless the target was too high from eye level. --less wall wiggle and close to the ground less b ody shake....

One night,a few years back,Blackcloud and I made a bet. Who will rush out of their tent naked to see who was "marking". So at 3:00am, I "marked" near their tent. I lost the bet as Steve ,not Margie came out in the nude to rattle our cage! Dang! Man, was he *#)*^~!...no pun intended!
So our conversation changed from "Marking" to "Shampooing a Buffalo",another bedside story...

The square plate with the black dot was about 300yards from the firing line of most of the trails. It was a good poke out there, accounting for wind and all. That day, about 3 feet of drift, it seemed, yet not much for breeze on the firing line - just a gentle drift of air.
I managed it 2 out of 3 shots with my "Gentle Lady" one day after shooting the trail course. I re-named my .69.

Thats funny, "Gentle Lady" :D Kinda like calling the bald guy Curly I think, at least from a targets point of view. I can remember how high that deer target jumped when you hit it!! It was fun to poke at those targets as you were going back to camp. Dont have such things at home. I had to hold a whole front blade and about 3 Ft high to even get close. "Marking" I get, Shampooing the Buffalo I dont even want to ask... Kerry

Exactly Kerry - her other name started with a "B". I felt that was a little abrupt for such a fair 'looking' gal. She does let you know hits from misses.
