Title: Joe's first build
Post by: joe d on October 04, 2011, 06:40:51 AM
Well, been reading here for quite a while, collecting books & videos, and  got lucky in that Peter Alexander happened to have a bunch of stuff on hand, and he was willing to get what else I needed to get going with a first build...
now it's time to get busy...
(https://americanlongrifles.org/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi235.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fee257%2F240283%2F100_3873.jpg&hash=5e6ca894420ce26b55ae36e93e5c0dccd6b4e891)

44" Rice barrel in 50 cal, Chambers lock, Reeves Goehring brass TG & butt plate.  You may notice another stock/barrel on the floor in the photo, same as above except a Colerain barrel, as my son has decided to build along at the same time.
Should be fun!

I'll pop in with the occasional progress report/cry for help as things go along.

Cheers, Joe

Looks like you are going to do an Isaac Berlin,   That is a pretty ambitious carving project for a first gun.   Ron

Joe d, welcome to the forum. It's always a pleasure to see someone do something they've not done before: as long of course that it's not illegal.  ;D

I can see by the tools around the bench that you're far ahead of me wrt the wood-hacking stuff.  The best thing I could put my hands on today to cut wood was an 18tpi hacksaw blade.  it got worse after that-not on the stock but on the tool i was making.

And you've got a bbl in channel...that's huge.  Keep us informed and keep pics a coming.
