I am looking for a brass buttplate for an old repro Turner Kirkland percussion longrifle 40 caliber, that has a barrel marked 'MADE IN BELGIUM"
anyone have one of these lying around? I am trying to restore this gun for a young man who was given the gun by his father. It has a chipped toe and is missing the buttplate.
thanks

I'd contact Dixie Gun Works. They should have that buttplate.

I have an old Dixie catalog from 1976 here. If this rifle is from that era and they offered parts for it, I may be able to furnish you an original part number to call in to Dixie. Seems like some things like brass furniture were not always available as a "part", but other times they were. After you post a picture or two, I'll see what I can dig up.

yea, a picture would help. I have a buttplate with an integral cast patchbox. Just like they did way back in 1980.

never mind. pulled the breech plug and the barrel and plug are beyond salvaging due to severe and extreme pitting and corrosion... the story goes that the gun was used to shoot bats with a T-shirt for wadding and rocksalt with this gun... Its a wall-hanger.
