I have one of the tap-in vent pick holders from MLBS that I am about to install in my Vincent, but I could use some advice on how to do it. I have taken the triangular tabs on the back and filed edges on them like a broadhead blade and brought them to a sharp point. My guess is that I need to take a small chisel and open up a "starter mortise" about the size of the base of the trianglular tab and then gently drive the tabs in. Am I right so far? Should I try to put it in at an angle where the cheek piece meets the butt, drive it vertically into the cheek piece from below, or horizontally into the butt? Many thanks for any instruction, as always.

You've got the right idea, but you really don't need to sharpen them.
Here's what I do. First of all, it goes horizontally into the butt, where the cheekpiece and the butt meet.
Figure out where the tabs are going to be located, and drill several 1/16" holes, the depth of those tabs about 1/2 to 3/4 of the width of the tabs, then just drive it in to place. It will be there forever. If you don't pre drill the holes, it will not seat, and you'll bend the $#@* out of it getting it driven in.

One more thing, use a small block of wood to tap it in with. Otherwise, you'll ding it up with your hammer.

Roger...Be sure an leave the pick IN the holder when you install or ya will flatten the holder a little. So go ahead ank ask me HOW I KNOW?
