Has anyone ever seen a trigger that has been offset, so the blade will come up closer to the center of the tumbler? A guy I know does this to minimise the torque applied to the sear bar.

This is very common on European and English pieces. Some are heavily offset, such that they are on the very edge of the trigger plate and barely covered by the guard.
