Title: Jaeger Rifle.

Hi Guys,
Could use a little help!
I have the parts for an American Jaeger.
I say American Jaeger, because the stock is curly maple, and a rounfaced lock
The caliber is .75, the barrel is a swamped Getz 42", making a very long Jaeger
Hardware is iron.
I am a little concerned installing the under lugs for barrel pins. The barrel is quite thin at the waist, so dovetailing is a concern. I could solder that lug in place,
Any ideas would be much appreciated

Fred, I would just solder the middle lug to the barrel without dove tailing. You will have to inlet that thin proud base into your bottom stock flat, but it will be fine. I have done this a few times using A weight swamped barrels and the lugs have held very well. Wow, a 75 caliber! Should be a very light well balanced canon! ;D

Hey Fred,
   I'd solder that lug in place to be on the safe side.  On a .75 rifle be sure to get a good joint, but if the other lugs are dovetailed then you shouldn't have any issues with the barrel staying in place.  Good luck!

That was my thoughts exactly.
What say you on a starting load?
I had a .56 Sharps years ago, it was on at 50 yds. but at 100 yds. it was off paper.
I think bullet drop was 12 feet.

I dovetail AND solder my tenons on! And the dovetails don't have to be that deep. I file at least half the thickness off the store-bought tenons.  ;)  But if you still think the barrel is too thin, then just solder that sucker on!
