Title: Chambers has a new kit!!!
Post by: Ezra on April 23, 2013, 01:55:24 AM
Have you guys heard?  You probably have and I am repeating old news, but anyways, Chambers has a new pistol kit.  An English pistol.  All I know at this point is it has a smoothbore octagon to round barrel (.58 &.62 are available, don't know about others), no side plate, English walnut stock and a Queen Anne flintlock.  It is posted on their price list (pdf file) on their website.

Hi Guys!  Here is the new pistol with descriptions and then pictures.

English Flintlock Pistol

Circa 1750-1790
Model PK-2

This pistol was patterned after an original English piece we own that was made in the mid to late 1700’s.  However, American made pistols in the period shared many of the same features and dimensions of the English pistols.
The 9” barrel is octagon-to-round with a slight swell at the muzzle, and is available either rifled or smooth bore.
Stock wood can be curly maple, cherry, American walnut, or English walnut.  If making an English pistol one should choose the English walnut.
The lock is one of our Queen Ann pistol locks.  The original pistol does not have a side plate, but rather incorporates two small brass rings into the stock by which the lock bolts come to rest against.

Stock Dimensions                    Barrel Dimensions
Overall length: 14”                     Overall length: 9”
Overall height: 5”                       Octagon length: 4”
Width of butt: 1 ½”                    Round length: 5”
Weight in 62 cal.: 1 ¾ lb.            Breech: 1”, Small: ¾”, Muzzle: 13/16”

Calibers: 58 and 62
Rifling rate of twist: 1 in 25”
Smooth bore: 24 and 20 ga.

Thanks Ezra!  Needless to say the one in the photos is still in process, it is screaming to be engraved.  So hopefully the master here in the shop will take pity on it soon and put a little more decorative lines on it.   ;D

Oh Bob! I've got to photograph one out of the next batch that we get made.  I was so excited to have a handful to send out last month that I shipped them all before getting my photos done.  We just got in new parts from the foundry so if I can get Dad to quit fishing long enough to build another batch I can then get some photos made.   ;D

Wow!  This is one neat pistol and the kind of pistol I could take a liking to.  I hope more pics of completed pistols find their way to the forums.

Hope you have a lot of these at Dixon's this year. Gonna sell like hotcakes, especially in 62 smoothbore.
