Here's a few pics of dressing up a muzzle, southern style. The tool is one I made. It's very similar to one Roger sent me pictures of a while back. Works pretty good. The holes are simply made with a center punch. Keeping them centered is the hardest part.

That's a great looking little tool Ken. Even though I own a lathe it would do the job quicker. Also, if a guy wanted to add a decorative ring or two to his completed muzzleloader you could do that without disassembling the rifle. Now I have another goody to add to my "to do" list thanks to the ALR.DMR

Ken,
Neat idea. Why couldn't you use the same tool to locate your center punched holes as well?? You know, line it up where you want them centered, then just tap to mark. You would be pretty consistent, then you could deepen them with a suitable center punch??

Smallpatch,
Great idea. I can't believe I did not think of that. Thanks!!

That's slicker than a frog on a wet rock!
Thnks for showing it.

Ken,
I've got several of Joe Woods coning tools. I'm thinking it would be really easy to adapt these to do the same thing.
Drill a cross hole, add a set screw and viola!!
By the way, my dear old uncle had a saying about that...... "Sometimes even a blind pig finds an acorn" (I just got lucky)
It will be a new direction from the "Heinie Muzzle", ala Don Getz.

One of Joe's tools would be easy to convert. Maybe Joe will expand his line. With the long taper on his tools you might need to put a second place for the cross bar to go or the scribe would be far away from the muzzle on the smaller calibers. His jags are made on the tool. I started off with a 1/4 rod on the end and made a jag each time I used the tool. It did not take long to figure wrapping tape around the 1/4 rod was far easier than making jags for each cal.
Cheers,
Ken

Very cool Ken ! What did you use for the cutter ?

It's the punch pin out of an automatic center punch.

You should make copies of this tool (and put me down to get the first one).
Better hurry, though, before Joe modifies his tool and gets all the wealth! ;)
