Title: Thin enough?
Post by: Osprey on July 09, 2008, 10:46:39 PM
I think I got the forestock thin enough on the gun I'm building.  Put a coat of test stain in the barrel channel to see how it is going to look, and when I went back the next day saw something on the outside of the forestock - the stain was visible from the OUTSIDE!   :o  Some of it was seepage through the wood, but dang!

You've got a lot of curl/crossgrain in that fore end!   ;)

Not uncommon. Ive seen it go thru 1/4" of maple. You won't know it when it's stained outside. No worries!
