Title: Bore Specs
Post by: iloco on October 08, 2013, 12:28:23 AM
I bought a Ken Netting smooth bore that I was told was a 58 caliber.  I measured the bore and it is 5.680 according to my cheap set of calipers.   Is this unusual and what size ball should I use for this barrel.
I don't know who made the barrel.  It is Oct to Round.

Is the barrel choked at the muzzle? That could easily explain the .006" per side smaller measurement.

I am not sure if it's choked.  Not sure how to tell if it is.

Not real scientific but a cleaning patch on a tight fitting jag might give you an idea.

If you bought from Ken, maybe you should contact him, and he could enlighten you?

iloco,

I am sure you did not mean (5.680) since this would be five inches six hundred and eighty thousands. Move the decimal place one step to the left (.5680).

Yes you are correct.  My mistake.

I did not buy the rifle from Ken.  I did contact the seller and found it shoots a .562 round ball with a thin patch.  Also the barrel is a colerain.   Should have contacted the seller before posting here.   Thanks for the replys everyone gave me.
