I read in a magazine that it is possible to make blackpowder for long rifles from chicken manure. I was wondering if anyone has actually tried it, and if so, how did it work? Is it really practical or reliable? Is it very corrosive?

I'm not sure it's kosher to discuss making powder on this forum. I know that on some sites it's verboten. That being said, I can tell you that chicken manure or any other manure for that matter would only be a component of saltpeter, or nitre, which is a component of gunpowder. Manure is processed with other stuff over a period of time to form nitre crystals (Not going to go into details). It's an involved, stinky process and the incorporating of the finished product with the others to make the powder, especially a good grade powder, is a process highly fraught with danger. There are safety protocols that have to be followed and without proper equipment to prepare the ingredients and knowing just what to do, you could end up wasting your time and materials or worse yet, blowing yourself up.

ebay sells all the stuff you need. Not sure on the charcoal part though.
