Anyone out there know a good source for a swamped pistol barrel 10" long and 13/16" at breech. .40 to .50 cal OK.
-
Charles Burton is the man I talk to for custom barrels. I'm trying to decide on a rifle or pistol for a next build. :)

Mine came from Ed Rayl. Great barrel in .45, flintlock.

Jim Chambers has them I think--Ed Rayl's www.flinlocks.com

You might also try Muzzleloaders Builders Supply, they some swamped barrels. Btw, smoothbore or rifled? MBS has mostly smoothbores.

I don't know anything about Bruce Everhart in KS, but I found this page interesting.

Bruce is a good ol boy. I used to work with him. Done a few camps with him too.
He builds a very fine gun.

Ryan is a great guy and I've bought almost 10 swamped pistol barrels from him in various lengths, calibers, & styles. He will also machine out a custom barrel for you as well.

A pistol barrel doesn't take long to swamp by hand--a couple-three hours--and you end up with the profile you want. I'd rather spend an evening or two filing than wait on a custom barrel, or modify my design to suit what is available.

Habu & Guys,
Well said, In addition to what Habu said, you will be much more pleased with the accomplishment if you actually make the swamp. It certainly is well worth the effort. Just don't try it with a fine cut finish file, use a big coarse cut file, half round is the best. Here is a before & after, really not as difficult as it may seem at first.

Even the imperfections you get by hand filing the barrel will add to the authenticity of your work. Give it a try, and be encouraged!

I have recently found the folks at MBS VERY accommodating and helpful as well.
Troy and Shannon at SCO are also great to work with and they are also good neighbors.
