Talking flintlock, how is the length of the cock throw measured? What parameters determines its length?

 I measure the throw by putting an average length flint in the cock and measure from the center of the cock screw to the striking edge of the flint.

I think if you are BUYING one from a catalog its to the lower jaw on a flint cock.
