Title: Jedediah Starr Kits
Post by: Stuartg on February 09, 2014, 08:03:55 PM
Howdy guys,

I'm a newbie on this forum, but see a wealth of knowledge can be had here, so here goes:

I read a lot about TVM, TOW, etc. but I rarely see anything about Jedediah Starr. Looking at their site, they have a ton of inventory on shooting supplies - you name it. Well, I also noticed they have a ton of kits.

Does anyone have experience(s) with their kits they could share, if any? I'm looking to build a rifle this summer, so I'm in my data collecting stage.

I got a parts kit from them. Green Mountain barrel, Chamber's  lock, Davis triggers and a nice stock. However, pour over all the photos you can find so that you know what the other parts should look like for the builder or school you want to attempt. I say this because the sideplate was absolutely incorrect and the ramrod pipes didn't begin to look right.  I hadn't been aware of this site at the time, nor did I know about Shumway's and Kindig's books. Once I found out what the parts for my gun were supposed to resemble I corrected and made or modified to get the right look.

That's some good insight. Right now I'm looking at all the kit options, and so far leaning towards a TVM kit. For the price, they seem tough to beat.
