UPDATE on 2/21 - ALR Meeting POSTPONED..... AGAIN
I just received a call from the Fort manager and the power at the Fort is out again. The problem is in an underground line, so it's not going to be a quick fix.
We are not going to be able to meet tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 22
I will try to find us an alternate site on a future date, or possibly reschedule at the Fort once the power is restored.

I recently found a set of USA made Nicholson 49 and 50 rasps. And I thought it would be cool to set up a side by side comparison of rasps at the Boonesborough ALR get-together this Saturday.
If you are coming to the meeting this Saturday, do you have any of the Iwasaki rasps? I've got 2 lined up, but would like to have more. Do you have another brand of rasp that works well? The shootout is open to all brands!
Bring your best rasps and I'll bring my 49 and 50 and some pieces of maple. We’ll let everybody try them out, then report our findings on ALR.

I just heard one of our members will be bringing an Anjou French-made, hand-stitched rasp. Can't wait to try that out!
What else have we got out there? Bring them to the Fort.

To bad it's so far away. I would love to come down. The last time I was at the fort there was back in the 90's. I used to drive down every year to shoot 20 shots in the interstate flintlock match that was held there. I was part of the New York Team then.

Hey Jim,
The Interstate Flintlock match is still held every year. This coming October will be the 52nd annual, I think. We sure would like to see you NY boys come back down.

I have been working the Iwasaki quite a bit here lately. You kind of have to re-learn how to use a rasp. I already like it fitting the buttplate. It cuts about as fast without the deeper digs. I suspect that it will be great in secondary and final stock reduction. Should compliment the scraper. Still can't live without the 49 & 50.

As a matter of fact, I am currently working on developping a hand-stitched rasp that would have the same specifications as the Nicholson #49 : many of my customers have asked me to do so saying that since Nicholson had moved its production to Latin America the quality of this respected tool was no longer what it used to be.
So, Ron, if you accept, I could produce and ship you one of this prototype Liogier #49 so you could add it to your rasping contest and I would get some feedback for experienced users on this new tool.
Afterward, as Tom suggested to me, it could be auction off as a fund raiser on the ALR.
Would this be OK ?
