Here is a composite photo of my new pistol that I just finished.
Specs: 12" 50 Caliber Charles Burton swamped barrel. Chambers small siler brass plate and pan lock, Trigger guard from Chambers, Butt Cap from Muzzle loader builders supply. Curly maple blank stock from Dunlop. Muzzle cap, ramrod pipes and side plate hand made from sheet brass.
I specifically designed the grip to fit my hand. All too often I have handled pistols that are either too long or too short in the trigger pull. I'm very happy with the way it turned out, but in general I find pistols much more difficult to build to get things right. They are also very hard to clamp up in a vise, not many handling places.
enjoy.

Beautiful, Micah. The relief carving around the tang really sets it off.. What did you use to stain the wood? Really like that color.

Wow! That is a beautiful piece of workmanship! Well done!!

Good morning Micah; Very nice job on the pistol. The two items outstanding for me are, 1) great color and wood grade, 2) brass lock plate. I have used brass lock plate with a steel priming pan, which I also like the looks of on such a pistol. Thanks for sharing. AJ.

the Stain is LMF Maple as a base, then over coated with Walnut. Before applying the finish I rub it well with 0000 steel wool, which adds a highlight to the high spots.
For everyone else, thanks for all the nice comments.

Clearly well done.

Very Nice pistol my friend.

thank you Gentlemen!
Normally I let my guns age and take on a patina. I haven't decided what to do with this one. Maybe I'll just have to get it DIRTY and see how it looks then. HaHa.

Micah brought his pistol in the making (basically done but final shaping, carving and finish) up the other day and I must say it not only looks good but has a natural feeling heft. He has promised to bring it back so his pal dave can shoot the daylights out of it... :o) Can't wait.
Great job Micah!

Thanks Curtis, The butt cap was from Muzzleloader Builders Supply. I thought about forming one I had the heavier brass sheet. But this cap was what I wanted so went with it. Maybe next time.
