I am a big fan of John Davidson of Rockbridge Co, Va and his master. However, I can find almost no personal information about him in any of my references. I was wondering if anybody knew exactly where he lived and worked? I am assuming if was most likely somewhere along route 11 (Lee Hwy) which was the old wagon road. The place that would make the most sense is Lexinton,VA, but there are a number of nearby localities. I know one of his customers lived in the Glasgow area, and it is a 20-30 minute drive from the customers farm along backroads to Lexington, a little shorter drive to Glasgow. Can anyone fill in any other information for me?

I've wondered about that too. I've only seen one of his rifles, and it had been modified, but I'd not mind seeing more of his work. The history of that rifle is known only as far back as 1865; FWIW, it and another rifle were acquired in Richmond by one of the occupying troops.

Is this him?

Avirc,
The John Davidson Sr. looks like the guy, but again, only the county is given.
I am not sure there is any way to tell for sure that the John Davidson listed in the 1820 census is the same unless the age and occupation are correct. Was the age and occupation listed in that census? Also, what was the address?

Occupations were not listed in the Federal Census until 1850. No age either, just he was over 21.
I notice in many of Whiskers books, he mentions "Census of Industry", if you could find those they even tell how many guns makers made. But I have never been able to find them anywhere.
You can follow up on the names of family members on that tree and sooner or later something will tell you where he lived ( maybe) . see ancestry.com
