Title: Stain on the lancaster
Post by: kaintuck on July 21, 2014, 02:36:37 AM
This Lancaster will have a new home when she's done...In Mini-soda, I will let the feller tell us who it is ;)

but the LMF stain went on today...and it is B-ute-te-ful!!!!...she really popped the stripes out.....when the engraving is done and all the barss is back on her...and the barrel is nice and dark....this one is gonna be really a nice rifle.....and the custom barrel from them thar hills in Ky, will be a lifelong prize shooter!

Beautiful. Especially the carving. What LMF stain is it?

Looks beautiful!

Be sure to do a test with the stain. It's been my experience with Laurel Mt Forge stain that when you put finish on it, the color will look lighter than it does on the unfinished stock by quite a bit.
I use LMF Lancaster Maple full strength as a pre-stain then when it's dry I add another coat of LMF American Walnut full strength to give me the darkness I want. The addition of the second coat of stain will not affect the figure in the wood.

Good luck with it. You done very well.

The workmanship looks fantastic, but you can tell it's a modern pigmented stain.   I'm still a fan of aqua fortis and always will be.  Got enough to last a lifetime.
  Keep the pics coming.
