A rifle inspired by Adam Ernst. When I started this I had no idea the dog head patch box was used on a number of Ernst rifles. I turned mine right side up. Moon shaped wedge heads are hard to see in the small photos.

Beautiful rifle Bill. This is a quality rifle.
-
I wondered why you hadn't posted anything lately. Now I know. A beautiful rifle, I really like the patch box, and the side plate is special also.
-
Ernst is one of the great Golden Age riflesmiths and yours is an equal or better for sure. Your work is a joy to behold.
-
Well I hope folks aren't getting tired of all the praise going out here because that is a fantastic rifle. Whoever that is meant for is a lucky man. There is something about your work that looks so right. Like looking at a good original.
-
Another great rifle, Bill, and I always enjoy looking at your relief carving. It would be nice if you could share some of your tools used and techniques. Thanks for posting.

Lovely work Bill, outstanding carving. It's great to see an Ernst rifle reproduced like this. Will you have this at Dixon's? See you later this week.

Nice clean crisp rifle. You patina, as usual, is just the right amount.

Good morning Bill; Sir, The high light for me, 1) one , the lock attention and details. 2) two, the over all engraving of this project. Thanks for sharing. AJ

I like it. It's nice to see a gun of this style being built. Beautiful work.
-
The engraving is wonderful. I think that is the best treatment of a brass lock plate I have ever seen.

Very beautiful !

That's a fine looking rifle, Bill!
My old Ernst (now owned by another guy) had that same good looking side plate! ;D

Here's something I should have included. Coolest moon ever-from an Ernst rifle.

I find Bill's work a little depressing - on a personal level that is.
We seem to have very similar tastes in rifles and I think the last three he has posted up here are ones that I "would have" considered trying to build myself.
But after seeing his work I realize I need a whole lot more practice (especially that National Road rifle he built - tongue dragging in the dirt awesome) - depressing ;D
-
Bill, didnt mention it in my first post but I too love the engraving. The straight lines are straight and that is something I seem to struggle with. Again, a great looking gun.
-
As usual another outstanding effort--I hope the dog knows a good dentist :>} What is next????
Best wishes Ron
-
Man oh man have we had some beautiful pieces posted her lately! Gorgeous work Bill.
-
Another great rifle Bill. Outstanding workmanship!!
-
Bill, you are a true "artiste"---nuff said.

Thanks for the compliments guys. This was a fun rifle to build and I don't think you'll see too many of them.
