Mr. Tom Tom Was this rifle patterned after a Settle rifle? I have examined a few Settle rifles and found that they were very different between the three. Do you have a Settle rifle to get patterns from? Mike New

...
Yeah, that nearly caused me to spill my beer. ;D
As far as I can see, looks like a dandy fine rifle. Can't wait to see better shots. ;)
Here's my Bender (of 5 outdoor felines):
He knows not of gunwork, but is good with his paws.

I need him here to practice squirrel control. My mother had a cat
that looked like this guy and he would ambush dogs on the side walk
in front of the house. She called him "the Gray Ghost"and he came to
a bad end under a car.

Decades ago I had two greys like that, but yellow eyes. Gandalf and Strider. Now you know what I was reading when I got them. Current shop cat is a calico named Holly. She misses her brother, Buddy.

Sorry, my 1st pictures were taken with my I-potatoe phone..... :crzy:
This is the cherry stocked, 46" straight 40cal C Burton barrel, long tang, Dennis G made the TG, TOTW nose cap, thimbles, buttplate re-bent to less swoop/pinned toe plate to BP w/brass rod, hickory RR tapered with metal tip, late Ketland lock with tail filed off~in-the-barrel front sight, and my rear sight. browned, then aged metal and the wood aged. My 'colonial interpretation' of the Breens KY rifle of the early 1800's..........

Tell us more about that front sight, unless you did already. Did you get it right the first time? Or maybe you do that sort all the time?
Tomtom don't look so good in those pics, looks a bit compressed. :D
-
Looks good, nice old time Gun. Dennis makes a pretty nice TG.
I still haven't figured out the SILVER maple???
-
;Dsilver maple.......yup~me an DAVE thinks it's a good hard piece......we'll see when I get to the carving part.....
And Wade......I measured twice on that center for the front sight......took a dremel carbide, cut my groove, and then filed my brass sight, tinned it, fluxes it...tapped it into the slot...90 degrees on both sides ;D....cleaned the barrel out......propane torched it.
Regressed the barrel.....OOOO steel wooded everything.......proceeded to rust stuff.....age it...done!
Only one thing......IF it ever gets bent......?????.... ::)
But, this is a present for my brother in law.....so he most likely just hang it on the wall......
Thanks for looking.......and TomTom is looking toward next rifle.......

That's better! Those mountain guns sure have some graceful lines to them. I like that inlet front sight. Very cool detail that seems like it could be tough to pull off correctly. After you shoot it, put a little black powder residue onto that brass rivet in the nosecap to give it some age.
Thanks for the better pics.
