Picked this up locally. It's about the nicest KY/PA style rifle I've owned. Green Mountain barrel in .50 caliber, and a really beautiful stock. It looks to have sat a while, and I'm not sure if the barrel was originally browned by the maker, but it is cleaning up nicely.
Anyone ever hear of C. R. Staton?
This rifle almost makes me wish I were a lefty!!
In truth, I don't think the orientation will matter much. I may order one of those brass cups for the nipple, to divert flash.

Nice looking rifle. Must have been a real deal if you're not a lefty, or did you get it to turn over.

It was a good deal, and I initially figured on selling it. But it feels great to handle and shoulder, and I don't think the opposite lock position will bother me.
I'd probably consider trading it for something comparable, if a lefty really needed it. But for the time being, I don't think there's anything odd about having a left-hand rifle among my small group of muzzleloaders. You know, diversity...
