In pricing out my next build and I'd like to use burl maple for the stock. Where do the members on this forum get their burl maple? It's actually going to be a short stock overall length, but I'll need a thick piece. Just curious. Thanks,
Greg

What length do you need?

If I decide to proceed I would need something around blunderbuss length ;D couple feet long 2 to 2.5 thick. I can find smaller pieces, but nothing like what I need. Price= :o.

I do not have an actual piece of burl but I have an extremely figured curl blank that may fit. I could send you photos if interested.

Sweeney I'll keep that in mind. Like I mentioned in in the planning stage, curly might work, but the original is burl. Thanks,
Greg

You might contact Gobi Walnut in Oregon. They sell maple burl and they sell gunstock blanks. If you were to call them and discuss what it is you need, they might be able to meet your needs. It is Western Bigleaf Maple, which is about as hard as cherry or walnut in lumber, but the burls are harder. Here is a link to some pix of burl slices they have currently.
