Title: Hawken inna box, early Oct on the blog??
Post by: JB2 on November 09, 2015, 07:32:55 PM: The title of the listing is "Not all Sam Hawkens rifles traveled across a saddle". Does any one have more information about this rifle or the box, or are there more and better pics anywhere?

Not practical it one was in hostile territory unless it was just for shipping like up the river to a post. Wagons can put a horrid amount of wear in a rifle in a short time if not properly cared for. But unless in a cover as well this box would eat a rifle in a wagon.

Very interesting piece. The case lining looks very much like the cloth sleeve that came with an original J&S I got to handle a few years ago
