Title: Blacksmithbolts.com black oxide coating?
Post by: J. Talbert on July 10, 2016, 12:58:26 AM
It looks like all the oval headed wood screws from Blacksmithbolts.com  come with a Black Oxide coating.
Whats the best way to deal with that?  Does it require a muriatic acid bath?

Anybody dealt with these from this source?

Thanks,
Jeff

I use them and when I rust blue the metal parts I leave them as is. If you don't like the black look then polish it off with some abrasive cloth or paper - the coating comes right off then you have polished steel.

If it's like the oxide finish on Allen wrenches, it's nothing more than hot-dip bluing.

If that is so then any type of rust remover should handle it.
