Steve Chapman loaned me a couple of gun making tapes today and among them was a video of Dixon's done in 1988. Michigan LongRifleSmiths Guild did the tape. On it were sections done on tool sharpening by Chuck and graver sharpening by Greg - among other scenes. Anybody else have this tape?

I wish!

I had it but I loaned it out ;D.

I can check on my shelf to see if I still have one. I was a member of said guild and present at Dixon's when that was recorded. Do you want to acquire one? Also the presentation by Dave Hardy on sharpening carving tools was the best I've ever seen. That really helped me advance my work.

How about this -- the ones that would like a copy of the Dixion's tape chip in and have the VHS tapes turned into DVD video and add a little profit to go to the ALR Forum as a donation???

Who's gonna foot the legal bill for copyright infringement?

Obviously the copyright permissions need to be gotten from Michigan LongRifleSmiths Guild. Assuming it is out of print that should not be too difficult. Pay them a residual??..Its not likely to 100,000 copies. and hopefully they have an interested in getting it redone on DVD.......sell it through Doxon's too..............

I doubt if more than 50 to 100 tapes were ever made for sale. I was told last week the Michigan Longriflesmiths Guild has closed shop due to master Jack Gee's age and declining health. I have emailed the professional photographer Ron H., who filmed the video to look in and comment on this discussion.

I own the copywright to the video I shot and produced in 1988. If you want to copy it for your own use that is fine. If you want to copy and distribute it to others for money or trade that is another matter. Let me know your wishes.

Welcome back to this sight Leaning Chair. Ron is a fellow clubmember and has built some fine rifles of his own and is a very competitive shooter. We go at it on a regular basis. Stick around and add your 2cents, I know you have it! ;D

A copy sure would be sweet! I'm gonna follow this thread closely.

I believe we are not talking about starting a business with "bootlegging" someones copyrighted property here. I am glad someone spoke up with info on who owns the copyrights to the video - thanks for your input Leaning Chair. My reference to monies was to have the VHS format turned into DVD format not to start a video business. I do believe this forum is a "not for profit" group of individuals who love black powder lore. As such I propose that we ask Leaning Chair what he would consider a fair monetary sum to be paid to him by members of ALR to acquire a copy of a newly converted DVD that will be in the possion of a fellow member or - you yourself Leaning Chair could convert the format then offer the DVD version for sale to whoever would like one - I think this is a fair request :-*??
-
Leanin Chair,
Will you convert the tape over to DVD and offer it for sale on this board?
Thanks,
Ken

Talked to Leaning Chair,he is looking into the cost to convert his master (if he can find it) tape to DVD. He wonders how many would be interested in buying one. Needs to recoup his cost, & if there is a LOT of interest (sales) the cost per disc can lower. No estimate yet.
I found my own tape.

I'm in...if the cost isn't prohibitive.

What J.D. said!!

Amen JD and Doc!

What's on the tape and how long is it? I'm sure I'm in provided the price is reasonable.

Sounds like a lot of you are interested. Guess I'll have to do some checking and see if I can find the master for making DVD dupes. Stay tuned.

Eureka. I found the master for the 1988 Dixons Gunshow program. It's 53:20 in length and I can mail them to you in DVD format for $25 with shipping. I have to order a minimum so send me an email with your address to grtlake@bigfoot.com and I'll put you on the list and get you an address to ship me a check.
